WORKING WITH ESURE

"There are so many opportunities once you join the business"

ALEX

Role: HR Business Partner

Based: Glasgow

Joined esure: April 2009

What did you do before you joined esure?

I worked in a training role for an Investment Banking firm before moving on to working in HR for a large automotive manufacturing and research company. This latter role was in a small but emerging and passionate HR function which allowed me to become involved in aligning the people strategy of the organisation with its business goals as well as providing day to day HR support and advice.

Prior to that I studied English Literature and Psychology at Glasgow University before doing a masters in Human Resource Management.

What sort of things does your job involve?

HR within esure is well established and is an integral part of the business. I work closely with my client group (Operations) and provide advice and guidance on all their people management challenges. A significant part of my job also involves keeping abreast of upcoming employment law changes and incorporating them into HR policy and procedure.

In practice this means that no two days are the same! One moment I can be working on organisational redesign and the next dealing with employee relations issues or managing large scale recruitment campaigns.

What do you like most about your job?

It has to be the fact that it is so fast paced and continuously keeps you on your toes! Working so closely with people every day is also incredibly energizing and provides a real sense of satisfaction in providing a good service. Also my job gives me the opportunity to work at the forefront of the business and incorporate HR policy and strategy into our corporate goals.

Ultimately the best thing about my job has to be being part of a hardworking and highly effective HR team. Even on the busiest of days we do not take ourselves too seriously and are able to take a step back and have a good laugh at each other!

What's it like to work at esure?

Fast paced is the first thing that immediately comes to mind. esure has a great culture, everyone works really hard but the company is aware of the importance of a good work-life balance. Although incredibly fast moving it is a fun company and a really good place to work!

What do you like most about the company?

We have a great brand. When I tell people where I work I like the fact that it always elicits a reaction whether that be the usual positive one or even when people say how annoying our adverts are!

It also rewards its staff really well and offers great recognition for a job well done.

How do you see your career with esure progressing?

I am looking forward to working with my client area and the wider business on implementing new projects. I feel that I have a lot more to give in my current role and at the moment I am concentrating on developing HR within my client area to ensure that we are fully aligned with best practice and that we are able to look into new and exciting ways of doing things which will move the business forward.

What would you say to anyone who's thinking about joining esure?

Don't hesitate! It's a great company to work for and is only going from strength to strength. Also, there are so many opportunities once you join the business that for a passionate and motivated person the sky is the limit!
